SMILE!

Driving today, and stopped at a Zebra Crossing. A young black guy stepped out, and leaning down, and looking directly into my car gave me a wave of thanks and such a lovely smile I was blown away by it! A big, friendly, loving smile. (I felt like jumping out of the car and giving him a hug!) And I hadn't been in a particularly friendly mood. A bit down. A bit sorry for myself - loads of jobs to do, blah-de-blah . . . Yet his smile shifted all that! And I drove on, really happy with my lot in life.

He will never know what his lovely smile did for me today.

And that got me to thinking . . . Do I smile at complete strangers? Sometimes, maybe - but probably not enough.

In fact, I had noticed - if I caught sight of my reflection in a shop window - that I always seemed to be walking along frowning! That seemed to be my 'default' mode. I became conscious of that and tried to change my facial expression - if not into a smile (that might look a bit loony) - but into a neutral, approachable, expression. Not sure if I've succeeded . . . ?

Why don't we smile more? We should. You should. And who knows - your smile might just brighten someone's day, and be remembered by them long after that day has passed.

As I'm sure my special gift of smile, by that young man, will be remembered by me for a long, long, time. And he will never know the effect that his beautiful smile had on me. How it cheered me, how it made my day.

So send out your SMILE. You don't know where it's going, but it will go!
